New Nuclear Power Station Planning Approved Today

The UK Government have approved planning for the proposed new nuclear power station at Hinckley Point, Somerset. The new plant is the first to be built in the UK since 1995 and will be large enough to power the equivalent of 5 million homes.

The multi billion pound project is hoped to be a stimulus for further infrastructure investment and growth to see the UK economy moving forward. The reactor has been designed by EDF and Areva, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR), along with the Environment Agency, approved the design of the reactor in December 2012.
