To ensure compliance with a Wastes Management Licence, modern landfills require regular monitoring of both internal monitoring wells, and external compliance wells.

In order to understand the behavior of wastes as they settle and degrade within containment cells, and to ensure that conditions do not build up so that stresses are placed on lining systems, it is essential to monitor the head of leachate within a cell, as well as landfill gas concentrations.

Boundary compliance wells also need monitoring to confirm that hazardous gases and/or leachate are not migrating from the landfill to the outside environment.

DBS can assist landfill operators with compliance monitoring of their facilities, and in the case of historical landfill sites we can assist Local Authorities with their obligations for monitoring and controlling potential risks from historical landfills within their borough.

DBS Environmental Phase 2 Ground Investigations
DBS Environmental Landfill Compliance Monitoring

We use the latest technologies available for our monitoring work, and all of our equipment is fully calibrated regularly, and ATEX approved for working in potentially explosive atmospheres.

We have rigorous internal QA procedures and training for working on landfill, our staff all carry leptospirosis cards when they are on site, have up to date CSCS cards and are members of the Institute of Wastes Management.

We can also design new monitoring wells and monitoring regimes, and design landfill investigations.

We also have considerable experience in managing the risks to pubic health and the environment from historical landfill sites where an operator is no longer in place, for both private and public sector clients.
